There are two types of onion grown in the Philippines; the yellow and the red onion[red pinoy]. The yellow varieties are grown for the traditional market, The red varieties, on the other hand, are produced because of their long storage life.
Frelyn Montemayor Victorio of Bone South Aritao Nueva Vizcaya had established Frelyn Onion Buying Station which engages in buying onions here in the province of Nueva Vizcaya.
She was motivated to have a business because she is the breadwinner of the family and she wants her family to uplift their living condition. She began with a meager amount of 500,000 pesos to start to buy onions from farmers who planted onions.
Frelyn started this kind of business 8 years ago, with her hard work and perseverance she was able to buy a truck forwarder to transport onions to a wholesaler in Valenzuela Metro Manila.
Now she is also helping the community by helping at least 50 helpers to have work during this season of onion harvest and providing them with free meals every day.
